The Wines of Paso Robles: Exciting Red Bordeaux Varietals from the Cabernet Collective

2012 Burgundy Review

Testarossa

The 2012 vintage in Burgundy was difficult but, ultimately, highly successful. The year started off cold and wet with late flowering. Conditions were made worse by serious hail storms that significantly further reduced crop size.  However, the weather turned warm and dry in the late summer, producing fruit of very high quality, albeit of low yields.  In this article, we give our first reviews of the 2012 vintage. Overall, we find the wines, both red and white, to be excellent with good structure, superb acidity, and richly concentrated.  We find wines from the vintage to be on a par with 2009 and 2010, although not quite up to the quality of 2011 in terms of elegance and finesse.  As is usual with fine Burgundy vintages, the wines should be long-lived.  Interested consumers should purchase the 2012 Burgundies very soon as many, especially the reds, are in short supply.

In this article, we review new releases from several top Burgundy producers, all imported by JAO Wine Imports of McLean VA.
