Bodegas Ochoa: Purveyor to the Kingdom of Navarra

Ochoa

Few wineries in the world have as illustrious a history as does Bodegas Ochoa. It was the purveyor of fine wines to the Kingdom of Navarra in the middle ages. Documents show that in 1370 Queen Juana, wife of Carlos II, ordered wine from Ochoa de Ayanz who was then mayor of Olite, the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Navarra. Today, Javier Ochoa and his daughter Adriana, who has winemaking experience in Australia and Bordeaux (Pichon Longueville), carry on the proud Ochoa winemaking tradition. Everyone in the family is involved in this family winery, including Javier’s wife Mariví AIemán and daughter Beatriz Ochoa, who is responsible for marketing and sales. In this article, we review Ochoa’s current releases, imported to the US by Frontier Wine Imports of Dover NJ.
